There is a lot going on in our Golden Horseshoe SCIA region, within our eight-member counties and the broader agricultural community. Please mark the following dates on your calendar. Counties are encouraged to review this list before booking an event in order to avoid a conflict with other events and to email me with details of an upcoming event in both our region and the broader agricultural community so that they can be shared here.

FRI. JUNE 14 – DEADLINE to submit applications to Agricorp for the Canada-Ontario Forage Livestock Transportation Assistance Initiative. Click here for information on the program details.

MON. JULY 1 – DEADLINE: Balance owing for the Brant SCIA Bus Trip to the 60th Anniversary Farm Progress Show. See below, August 26, 2013.

WED. JUNE 26 – FarmSmart Committee Planning Meeting for FarmSmart Expo in the Guelph area, 7:30 pm. Location: To be announced.

WED. JULY 10 – Forage Expo presented by the Ontario Forage Council and the Bruce County SCIA, hosted at the farm of Dave Kuntz, Ikendale Farm, 1063 Concession 14, Carrick, R. R. # 4 Walkerton. The program will begin at 10 am and conclude about 3:30 pm. Admission is free to the farming community, cost of lunch to be determined. Sponsorship and trade show opportunities available. THURS. JULY 11 & FRI. JULY 12 – FarmSmart Expo at the University of Guelph Elora Research Station, 6182 2nd Line, Ariss (south of Elora, one block west of County Road 7).  Save the date. More details to follow.

MON. AUG. 26 through THURS. AUG. 29 – Brant SCIA Bus Trip to the 60th Anniversary Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois. Date of departure: Mon. Aug. 26, with return on Thurs. Aug. 29. $375 per person, based on double occupancy or $625 per person for single occupancy. Price includes the coach and three-nights accommodation; meals and show admission are not included. Deposit: $100 per person, due ASAP. Balance: Due July 1, 2013. Payment: Cheques made payable to the Brant Soil and Crop Improvement Association. Non-members: Please add $30 to the above fees to cover the 2013 membership fee. Payment: Cheques made payable to the Brant Soil and Crop Improvement Association. Open to all GHSCIA members. Important: Passports required (don’t forget to bring them on the bus).
